About the game Call of Duty 1: United Offensive
Call of Duty: United Offensive was released on 2004 by Activision (who did not develop Call of Duty 1), and is an expansion pack for Call of Duty 1. The original full version of Call of Duty 1 is required to play this expansion pack. Call of Duty UO features new single player missions, although most of the changes in CoD1 UO heavely influenced the online multiplayer part of the game. CoD 1 UO featured many new large maps for COD UO game servers, new weapons, a new featured ranking system and vehicles like jeeps and tanks.
 
The new Call of Duty United Offensive ranking system allowed the players to gain ranks, unlocking several benefits. Those ranks were reset every time a new online game started and included: Private (no unlocks), Rifleman (more grenades and ammo), Squad Leader (unlocks the binoculars), Section Sergeant (unlocks the Satchel charges - a kind of C4 that can be remotely detonated) and the Platoon Sergeant (this unlocks the Artillery Strike which can be used when 5 frags in a row were made). Ranking systems were later on also used in the other Call of Duty series, although more heavy than in Cod UO. For example, in the game Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 there are a total of 80 ranks (also called levels) to unlock and they don't reset at the start of each new online game.
 
Apart from those improvements in Call of Duty UO, new online multiplayer gametypes were added: Base Assault, Domination (DOM) and Capture the Flag (CTF). This allowed a COD UO server to run a total of 8 gametypes, making gaming on CoD United Offensive servers a lot more challenging. In the less known Base Assault gametype the players make use of tanks and jeeps in order to destroy specific targets and bases.
